Born in Irvine, California, David Luong is one of the most significant Game Artists in the industry, boasting a wide fanbase, and specialized in Digital Matte Painting, Lighting, Compositing, Art Direction and VFX Consulting.
The numerous video games and movies he spent countless hours with during his childhood played a significant role in cultivating his passion for digital art.
That’s why, after studying at the University of California, he began to learn the basics of 3D Animation and Visual Effects at the Academy of Art University, in San Francisco, where he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
His first job in the visual effects industry was at Disney Toon Studios, but soon he moved to other studios such as Luma Pictures and later to Rhythm & Hues, working on movies such as Night at the Museum, Superman Returns, and Underworld: Evolution.
In 2006 he joined Blizzard Entertainment, where he has been working ever since, climbing the ladder from Cinematic Artist to Senior Cinematic Artist II, the position he currently holds.
There he has contributed to every game franchise by his company: Overwatch, World of Warcraft, Diablo 3, Starcraft 2, Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm. Luong also teaches Matte Painting and mentors students through CGSociety.org, now with CG Master Academy.
