The 17 most expected videogames coming out in the second half of 2018

A barrage of titles is coming on the market and is going to keep us planted on our consoles

 

If the last year has been one of the most important in the recent gaming history (just think about Super Mario Odyssey, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Horizon Zero Dawn e The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild), even 2018 represents a significant year talking about the quality of the new titles coming out.

Sony and Microsoft are ongoing battle for the control of the next 4K future, Nintendo is going to stabilize long-term the initial successes of its Switch and PC market is taking advantage of the technological rise in virtual reality, and also of the arrival on the market of several independent games.

The first six months did not disappointed the expectations of the fans, and now that the critical point has been reached, there are still a lot of very promising games of the most varied kinds waiting for us and going to keep us planted on our consoles.

Here you are a list of video games you will want to see.

 

Octopath Traveler

Console: Nintendo Switch

Long-awaited RPG by Square Enix (the same of Bravely Default), exclusive for Nintendo Switch.

As can be guessed by the title, the player can choose to play one of the eight main characters, each of them with their own skills, targets and story.

The main peculiarity of this title is its fantasy background that developers did with a charming mix of computer graphic, pixel art and visual magic that has been defined “HD-2D”.

A first free demo of the videogame is already available on Nintendo Switch eShop.

 

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker

Console: Nintendo Switch

Even if the sales of last Nintendo’s console, the Wii U, have been a resounding flop, there had come out some very interesting games for it, first of all Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.

It is an action puzzle inspired by the special levels of Super Mario 3D World, that has “Captain Toad” and hid fiancé Toadette as protagonists.

Fortunately, the japanese studio is going to bring this game to life again, this time on Nintendo Switch, in a new version that will also have some miniature paths based on the reigns of Super Mario Odyssey.

 

Spider-Man

Console: PlayStation 4

This Marvel superhero needs no introduction. But the story of this videogame, the first of the series developed by Insomniac, is totally new: it is not consistent with the stories appeared in the comics or in the movies.

The main character is a 23 years old Peter Parker, already experienced as Spider- Man and protector of New York, that this time will have to defend the city from the attacks of the Inner Demons’ team, leaded by Mister Negative.

 

Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Console: Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC

Third title of the reboot series of Tomb Raider (sequel of the excellent Rise of the Tomb Raider), in which we will go again with Lara Croft exploring the world, finding out ancient ruins and most of all fighting against enemies.

Also, it will be available a seasonal subscription that will allowed the access to seven extra paths, with new narrations, missions, tombs, weapons, clothed and skills.

 

FIFA 19

Console: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Nintendo Switch, PC

It will be another hot summer for sport games: EA Sports will launch its Madden NFL 19 on the 10th of August, Codemaster will published on the 24th F1 2018, while on the 11th of September will come out NBA 2K19 by 2K Sports.

But the most expected title is undoubtedly FIFA 19, the last-born chapter of soccer simulation’s series most loved of the world. On the announced news there will be the Active Touch System, in order to recalculate ball controls and passes in a more fluid and realistic way, and most of all the official return of UEFA competitions (Champions League, Europa League and Supercup).

 

Forza Horizon 4

Console: Xbox One, PC

Again the openworld series of arcade driving videogames widely considered one of the best of the world.

Its strong points will be all maintained also in the last version: an exceptional graphic engine, a 450 range of real cars to choose, and the setting based into vast open spaces of the english countryside where the races will take place (and that will be changing depending of the season for the first time).

 

Mega Man 11

Console: Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC

To celebrate properly the 30th anniversary of Mega Man’s saga, Capcom has decided to dust it off with a new chapter after many years of sicence.

So, in this occasion, the new chapter will not only resume the previous ones but will also evolve them with a new unedited vocal dubbing and a new 2.5D graphic.

 

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

Console: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC

After defeating all Ancient Egypt’s villains, the series lands to Ancient Greek for its 11th chapter, settled during the war of Peloponneso and homeric myths.

The protagonists will be a man and a woman, Alexios or Kassandra, and the player will be able to choose one of them and guide the chosen one during its travels by feet, by horse or by boat, exploring territories like Athens, Sparta and Delo, and during its battles against the enemies.

 

Super Mario Party

Console: Nintendo Switch

A new ideal title to play with your friends, especially if fans of minigames and of the immortal Super Mario.

As the previous ten episodes of the serie, even this one is developed as a board game that in its inside contains funny and addictive mini-games that exploit all the various functions of Nintendo Switch (from the cameras to motion sensores).

 

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4

Console: Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC

As every year, a new Call of Duty’s chapter (the 15th of the series, the 5th of Black Ops’s saga) is coming in 2018.

After WW2 the game take again place in a futuristic and technological background, butb the biggest new is represented by the drop-out of single player’s campaign in order to focus on online battles or on co-op mode with more players.

 

Soul Calibur VI

Console: Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC

Another historical series that celebrates an important anniversary (the 20th, to be exact) with the exit of another title.

So, the Bandai Namco fighting’s franchise is coming back, after a long period  under the radar, with a title that blinks to the nostalgic ones, proposing again the classic characters of the series like Mitsurugi and Sophitia.

 

Battlefield 5

Consolee: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC

The 16th chapter of the shooter series maintains the WW2 background inaugurated by its precursor Battlefield 1, but this time it adds a customization if the characters not comparable to others, a new important extension in sigle player mode, the possibility to rebuilt or fortify defenses and most of all an unedited Battle Royale mode.

 

Red Dead Redemption 2

Console: Xbox One, PlayStation 4

Red Dead’s series is beloved from fans for its addictive storytelling and its open world background in western style: it means that, as happens into the notorious GTA, the protagonist, Arthur Morgan can explore all the vast territory taking part of missions, side events and interacting with every type of ridiculous character.

This title, to be exact, is the prequel of Red Dead Redemption of 2010.

 

Hitman 2

Console: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC

The worldwide most known bald assassin, Agent 47, come back on the footsteps of the big success of Hitman, released two years ago.

This time all the missions proposed by International Contract Agency will bring the protagonist in six different and brand new locations around the world, always with the target of killing one or more high profile’s targets.

But, for the first time in this series, missions can be accomplished with the help of a partner, in the mode Sniper Assassin.

 

Fallout 76

Console: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC

Bethesda studio, that has developed the last versions of this long and beloved series, presents us a new title this time focused on online multiplayer mode.

So, unlike to the previous chapters, all the characters we will meet in this post-apocalyptic future are real people, with whom the player will be called upon to rebuilt humanity after nukes’ war.

 

Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! e Let’s Go, Eevee!

Console: Nintendo Switch

Two same games but two different protagonists: Pikachu and Eevee. It’s a remake of Pokemon Yellow, settled in Kanto as always, but with a gameplay in part borrowed from the very popular mobile version Pokémon Go, with whom it is compatible.

The Poke Ball Plus, a special controller, will be spelled separately.a di Poké Ball.

 

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Console: Nintendo Switch

Smash Bros’s series is a fighting version of Mario Kart, which protagonists are of course the well known characters of Nintendo’s cast: from Mario to Donkey Kong, from Pikachu to Princess Peach), all of them with their powers and special weapons.

The title Ultimate is referred to the presence of all the characters of the series (68 in total), that will challenge each other even in wresting competition in group, with a total of eight possible players at the same time.
