Visual Effects Festival back again this year in Rome

The second edition of the event will take place on 25 January at the Casa del Cinema, organized by the Visual Effects Assiociation AVFX and by the Academy of Italian Cinema

Back again this year the Visual Effects Festival, organized by the Visual Effects Association AVFX, together with the Academy of Italian Cinema – David di Donatello Awards.

The second edition of the event will take place on the 25th of January at the Casa del Cinema in Rome.

The program of the 2020 Visual Effects Festival

The program includes a varied offer of masterclasses, workshops, panels, contests and a Job Fair, which will allow participants to meet the key players in the industry, both institutional and private: from production houses to companies to individual professionals.

Prominent international personalities will also attend, including Scott Ross (a top expert on Vfx, former Svp at LucasArts and founder, together with James Cameron, of Digital Domain studio), Brian Smithies (miniature and visual effects supervisor, who will show never-before-seen photographs from his 50 years of career), Matteo Rovere (Italian director, screenwriter and film producer) and Igort (cartoonist, screenwriter and director).

The admission to the event is free, upon registration on the official website.

This event is the answer to an increase in demand for Visual Effects, most of all in the movie and television industries, and to the consistent growth of the quality and the level of the achievements.

A clear sign that the world of Visual Effects has earned its prominent place in the audiovisual industry, also opening spaces for new job opportunities.

The Festival organizers are striving to push the local and national economy to promote technological and digital fields, with the aim of achieving greater recognition for the Italian Visual Effects business in international productions.

Three free contests

The second edition of the Visual Effects Festival will also include three very interesting contests, free of charge.

The first one is Vertical Effect 2020, which gives away a cash prize of 1000 Euros, offered by Roma Lazio Film Commission, to the best fixed or moving shot (lasting from four to ten seconds), realized with any digital technique: compositing on live action footage, 3D models integration, matte painting, dynamics, 2D/3D animations, motion graphics and so on.

The theme of the competition is Rome and the Lazio region, with no limits to the imagination: from ancient Rome to a far-away future, the seaside, the mountains, the cities, the villages and the suburbs.

The contestants, both individuals and teams, can send their works before the 23rd of January at 9 am.

A qualified jury will assess them and award the prize during the Festival.

The other two contests will take place on the very same day of the Festival. Rotorace is dedicated to rotoscoping: contestants will have but half an hour to complete a shot, without external gizmos.

My Vfx Story will ask contestants, again in half an hour, to realize a storyboard with Toon Boom Storyboard Pro, starting from a screenplay.

Works will be assessed by supervisors from the Association and the best ones will be awarded at the end of the Festival.

You can already register your entry to the two contests, free of charge, on the Association website.

So, don’t miss this unique event in Italy, on 25 January at the Casa del Cinema di Roma, which aims to become a reference point for the Visual Effects industry in the country.
